About This Walk

Greater Hardisty was subdivided from river lots into city lots in 1911 for an expected land boom. Construction finally started in the mid 1950s. This walk looks at the growth of a sixty-year old community which includes renovated older homes, proximity to industry and water treatment facilities as well as river valley parks. We end with two examples of Douglas Cardinal's architecture. Feel free to join & or leave the group at Gold Bar Park pavilion (11:00 a.m.) if you would like a shorter walk. This walk is about 6 KM.

Hello Everyone,

Thanks to all of you that were able to join us last Friday for Nature Night. We had a great turnout with approximately 40 people and hopefully everyone enjoyed going for a walk or a meander through the park and chatting with others from the neighbourhood.

Come and join us again this upcoming Friday (April 17) and every Friday night until the end of June from 6:11 – 7:11pm. Please feel free to invite others too – if they would like to be on my weekly email reminder ( list just send me their email address and I’ll add them on. We will meet beside the washroom building at Gold Bar Park (straight north on 50 street and take your last right before the river to travel down a road that passes by the water treatment plant and then you will arrive at the Gold Bar Park parking lot), divide into groups, and then head out for some time in the park.

See you on Friday!

Jenny Samm

PS – People have been asking if they can bring their dogs along for the walks and yes this works out great!
